What's the difference between a simple extraction and a surgical extraction?
So I'm getting 4 teeth pulled and I was wondering what would my procedure classify as. Simple extraction or surgical. For all the dentist out there, I'm getting #4, 13, 21 and 28 pulled. Would I have to get stitches after having these teeth removed. Please let me know...thanks
Simple extractions are ones where the tooth is grabbed by forceps and the tooth is extracted with no problems. A surgical extraction is when drilling and/or bone removal is necessary to remove the tooth and/or root (the tooth breaks and it becomes necessary to dig the roots out of the jaw).
Stitches are rarely required for single tooth extractions.
Sounds like you are having bicuspid extraction treatment for orthodontics. I'm sorry to hear that, especially if you are a female...
Bicuspid extraction along with retraction of anterior teeth have a high probability of causing TMJ after braces are removed. You may want to consider a non-extraction technique where bicuspid teeth are not removed. There are better and more modern ways to treat than the way it was taught over 75 years ago. Get a second opinion, preferably from an orthodontist who knows about functional orthodontics.

Dentist Air

why was i taught in Marine boot camp that Marine pilots are bettter than the navy and air force pilots?
why was i taught there was never an amphibious operation that failed? why were we taught that Marines took iwo jima, guadalcanal, etc when the army helped out ALOT? why Marines think they are better than everyone else? they call the navy their "ride" to a fight but the navy is much more then their ride. the navy is their medics, lawyers, dentists, naval missiles, etc
I served several years in the Air Force and then later worked as a contractor doing test and evaluation. I can assure you that no one branch's pilots are "better" than any other branches; they all are the very best this country has to offer.
Having said that, when I was doing test and evaluation, it always seemed the Marine pilots knew a lot more about their aircraft than the pilots from the other services and were all-around more professional in their approach to duty.

Dental Probe

When do you need a filling?
I saw the dentist and he said he felt a slight "stick" when probing one of my teeth and that it "might be a little bit of decay" and I "might want" to get it filled. I'm not sure whether I should get a filling now or wait? The tooth looks and feels totally fine and I'm wondering if this dental practice is a bit overeager to schedule procedures.
Get it done now. The filling wont hurt, regardless of whether or not there is a little drilling. Four years ago I went to the dentist and was told that I needed a a filling in one of my teeth, but my dad decided it was best to wait and see what happens before we spent the money.
About a year later I was having severe pain in my tooth, it was at the point where I was layed in bed because I could feel it in all the nerves in my face (not fun).
Eventually I got an appointment with a dentist and discovered that the decay had gone way into the root and I needed a root canal, which wasn't THAT bad but it cost a lot, but a few months after I got the root canal, the root that was left of my tooth broke and I had to get oral surgery, which hurt so bad that I couldn't get out of bed for about a week, and I was constantly drooling blood + I had three stitches in my mouth from all the drilling.
Get it fixed now. It's best.

Light Dentist

Did my dentist really put a silver filling into my molar?
I just got a filling, but it doesn't look like the ones my friends have. It's light gray with specks of glitter. My friend's fillings are very dark, and show from a mile away.
yes he did. some amalgam (siliver) fillings are different from others. different brands and manufacturers can be the reason. it's still a silver filling as is just as good as your friends.
